In a documented paper, compare and
contrast librarian created online materials with those available on the
Internet. What is the ideal combination of those materials discussed earlier in
the book and school librarian-created online materials?
The library I research on the Internet was
the Library of Congress. There are many types of specialist that contribute
information on this particular site. However, the digital reference specialist
is the person that provides online resources for users. Some the online resources
that the digital reference specialist provide include the following: blogs,
post, poems, audio and video etc. The librarian created online materials are
similar to the Library of Congress. The librarian created online materials
provide classroom resources, list of periodicals, reference links and search
engine links. Both libraries provide helpful and resourceful information in
assisting others to find what they need in doing research. In addition, both
libraries are well organized so that people can easily search for information.
In contrast, the librarian created online materials provide library policy,
schedule and mission. The Library Congress provides separate contact
information of the entire specialist involved in provided different information
on this particular website. The following website I use is http://www.loc.gov/rr/program/bib/trethewey/
to obtain information in comparing and contrasting librarian created online
materials with those that were available on the Internet.
Both libraries have many things in common.
In addition, both libraries could provide each other with online resources that
they do not share. Both libraries would have the same online resources for
students and teachers to use. Both libraries would provide a wealth of
information for students and teachers if they share online resources.
Furthermore, students and teachers enjoy libraries that provide them with many
resources for doing research.

This website provides teachers with many
reading activities for students. Some reading activities that this website
provides include the following: home books, leader readers and reading around
the world. I would definitely use this website to obtain some for reading
activities for students. I recommend teachers to use to teach students how to
use this website.
This website provides students with all
kinds of math games, practice solving math problems and play math Jigsaw
puzzles. Students who are struggling in math could benefit in using this
website. I recommend teachers should teach allow struggling math students to
use the website.

younger students to use. There are basic math games and problems younger

effectively to teach students library skills. This website would provide the
activities to accomplish this goal. I recommend librarians to definitely use
this website for obtaining library resources for teaching.
This is a good website for students to
use in the library. Librarians can demonstrate how to play the games. I
recommend librarians to use this website to find some games they can play in
the library with students.

resources for teaching students reading concepts. Teachers are able to access

Federation kid zone and fun brain activities. This is a good website for
teachers to use.
This is a good website for physical
education teachers. They can obtain health activities for all ages. In addition,
there are resources that physical education teachers can provide for parents.
Physical education teachers can effectively promote good health for students. I
recommend physical education teachers use this website.
This is a good website for teachers to teach upper
grade students to use for reading. Students can read about all kinds of
different educational topics. Some educational topics students can read include
the following: America History, World War II and America’s Civil War. I
recommend teachers to use this website when they are teaching about different
wars in History class.
Summary
Chapter 10 was about
school librarians creating online materials for the library. The author of
suggest ways school librarians to create online materials for the library. Some
of the ways include the following: librarians should put their library policies
online, provide their names, school address, phone number and e-mail address
online, and provide the school mission online. In addition, the author
suggested that librarians should put classroom resources and search engines
links online for students and teachers. The author informs the readers about
creating online materials for school library’s website or digital library. The
author suggested to putting reference links on the school library’s website or
digital library. In addition, Pennsylvania has the statewide Power Library.
There are 501 school districts that use this Power Library. The online library
has over 600 periodicals that can be access and read in full text. Students can

teachers do a lesson on erosion, he or she can have students to use the
Internet for finding about erosion. However, regular teachers might do
something different. Teachers might use a picture from the Internet to show
students about erosion. Furthermore, it is a best to have computer teachers and
computer classes in schools.
Computer teachers and computer classes
should not have a place in schools. Teachers should integrate technology into
the curriculum. They can teach their lessons on PowerPoint. In addition,
teachers can show students educational videos from the Internet. Teachers can
teach with technology. Therefore, computer teachers and computer classes are
not needed in schools. School should only allow teachers to integrate
technology into the curriculum.
Summary
Chapter 11 was about
integrating technology into the curriculum. The author suggests that school
need computer teachers and computer classes for teaching technology. Computer
teachers teach elementary students about keyboarding and how to use different
educational software. In addition, computer teachers teach secondary students how
to use advance educational software. The author also provided reasons to use
technology in the curriculum. Students are motivated when technology is
integrated into the curriculum. Integrating technology into the curriculum
means that it provides new approaches in instruction. Integrating technology
into the curriculum helps make teachers more productive. However, there is a
major con in integrating technology into the curriculum. Technology constant
changes therefore schools would have to purchase new operating systems often at
high expense. Furthermore, computer teachers are best suited for teaching
students how to use technology because they have a certification in computer
science.

meaningful content. Maintain each for one month (longer, if you prefer), and

Both of these sites blog and wiki have
people to join by creating an account. When people create an account with these
sites, they can start using it to share information with others. However,
people want to make sure that they share valuable information on blog and wiki
for others to read. Some information that they can share including the
following: assignments, discussion questions and videos. So far on my blog and
wiki site there are other people writing comments other things. However, there
is nothing mention about what I post on blog and wiki regarding assignments,
podcasts, and discussion questions. I am delighted to share information with
others about what they can use in their classroom or any other job.
Furthermore, I have learned some information from others about how good these
sites are for communication.

a ten-minute professional development snippet. Follow the instructions for
preparation given in the chapter. Present your podcast to your class.
Summary
Chapter 12 was about
Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is a participatory web. Students are motivated with 2.0
because the interactive technology that is involve in using it. In addition,
Web 2.0 provides great opportunities for collaboration. Web 2.0 is used for
social networking and socialization. Library 2.0 came about soon after Web 2.0
was established. Library 2.0 constant of collections of videos and audio
include with text. Library 2.0 is always changing and innovating. However, the
most popular social networking is twitter. People use twitter for texting
information to others rather than talking to them on a phone. In addition,
people use blogs to post information for others to read and provide a response.
Wiki is another website that people post information for others to read and
provide a response. Furthermore, people use virtual conferencing to talk to
others in lively fashion over the Internet.

1. Considering the
various roles of a school librarian, try to predict ways in which technology
will enhance your responsibilities as a professional. Consider how you will
interact with your peers, students, parents, and the community in which you
work. Prepare a report of your findings for your class.
Library media specialist must have a
teaching degree including a librarian certification. There are many facets to
library media specialist job. Library media specialist collaborates with
teaching providing them with resources to assist them in teaching students. In
addition, library media specialist works with students teaching them library
skills, research skills and library procedures. However, the library media
specialist main job is to teach information literacy, school curriculum and
library standards. Furthermore, library media specialists are to promote
reading and reading skills for students.
As a library media specialist, technology
will be used in the library. There will be a library orientation for students,
teachers, parents and the community to read online. The library orientation
will include library hours, contact information, accessible links to
educational sites, online access public catalog, library procedures including
other information. There will be information and resources post on blog, wiki
and web pages for teachers to read. These will give teachers an opportunity to
comment on the information that was posted. Furthermore, technology will definitely
enhance my responsibilities as a library media specialist.
2. As
a prospective school librarian, what are your present strengths and weaknesses
in technology? How do you plan to address these weaknesses? Technology evolves
over time, providing users with newer and more creative tools. What are you
plans to stay current? How will you continue your professional growth?
I have personal strengths and weaknesses
when it comes to technology. My personal strengths are the ability to operate
the computer and use different applications. I know how to turn the computer on
and off. In addition, I know how to log on the computer successfully. The
different applications I know how to use are Microsoft Office and PowerPoint. However
my weakness is how to use Excel application effectively. I plan to purchase the
Excel application and practice on it daily. I want to know how to use Excel so
I can create budget and other spreadsheets. In addition, I will seek help from
someone who managed in business. I want to obtain help in making different
spreadsheets using Excel. I believe this will definitely help me to be very
good in using Excel to make spreadsheets. In addition, I plan to stay current
in knowing about technology by taking computer classes. I will take computer
classes and learn about new programs and software that continue to come about
in the world. On the other hand, I will attend different conferences and events
to continue to grow professional. I will join professional organizations that
involves learning strategies and concepts for working in the library.
Summary
Chapter 13 was about
how technology is changing beyond and in the future. The change that might
occur in the future with technology is a move toward interactive instruction.
This will allow teachers and librarians to integrate technology in the
curriculum. In addition, personal response systems are coming to all college
level of instructions. Personal response system is hand held clickers that
allows the instructor to monitor entire classroom of computers. However, there
are many improvements need to be made in technology for students’ with
disabilities. There are hardware and software
available for students’ with disabilities but they need more resources. On the
other hand, as people know technology is advancing every day. There are many mobile devices people can
purchase now. People can install GPS system in their automobiles. This system
enables search engines to locate people who are stranded. People do a lot of
social networking. They barely meet up now a library or restaurant to discuss
any type of matter. In addition, people have any opportunity now to down load
books to read. People down load books to read from e-books such Kindle. People
can purchase televisions that provide streaming media. This allows people to
watch videos. Furthermore, people hardly purchase DVDS now because of the new
technology that keeps coming out every day.
