Weeding the Collection

Books in the library need to be evaluated on a constant basis. The library media specialist need evaluate currency, need and physical condition of books.  Books in the library need to be attractive to students so they would have a desire to read them. Books in the library will be discarded for the following reasons:  1. Books that are unattractive and damaged.  2. Books that are not checked out often. 3. Books that are in poor condition. 4. Books that is outdated. 5. Books that no longer support school curriculum. 6. Books that students are not interested in reading. Books that are discarded would be stamped or written over the library ownership and give to teachers if they want them.

Circulation

Books in the library will be checked in and out by using the school circulation database. I will provide student with library ID cards with their assigned student number. The student number will come from the circulation database. Classroom teachers and their students are on the school database. All I have to do is scan the library ID card I made for students and the book they chose to check out. However, I will scan the book or books students are returning back to the library. When I get an opportunity, I will reshelf the books the students, teachers and other school personnel return back to the library.

Book Challenges

Teachers and school personnel must report to me any problems that have with any books. I will meet with them to discuss the problems they have with the books. I will seek for any type of suggestions about what I should do with the challenge books. However, I will review the book or books for myself again. If I see any major issues with the book or books, I will discard. I will reconsider keeping the challenged book or books if is minor problems that can be fix.
